[Reverse Engineering]Deleted Videos and Pictures On Facebook Poke and Snapchat can be Retrieved

Last week I wrote a post about Facebook Poke, which enabled Facebook users to send messages and 10 second videos that get automatically deleted after a specific period of time.In just one week the hack is out to retrieve the deleted videos and pictures on Facebook and Snapchat. This time it is Katie Nottopolus of BuzzFeed that came up with the hack to retrieve the deleted videos and pictures on Facebook and Snapchat.

Katie said any popular file browser can be used to view the files send using Facebook poke and Snapchat.Katie found out that if videos and pictures were loaded but not opened any popular file browser can be used to access this private data.If videos were not viewed they were available in a folder named ‘tmp’ in Snapchat and ‘mediacard’ in Facebook Poke.Copying this files to computer will prevent the files from being automatically deleted.

Snapchat seemed to accept the failure to this method.Snapchat founder Evan Spiegel wrote on his post “There will always be ways to reverse engineer technology products – but that spoils the fun!”.He also said that those who loved the service will not go to the extend of connecting iphone to the computer and then recovering this files.

So guys what do you think about this new hack to retrieve files and pictures send using Snapchat and Facebook Poke?Is it an indication that Facebook fails to deliver the utmost security to its users?Do drop in your opinions.
