Download Mission Istanblul Movie

Director: Apoorva Lakhia
Cast: Viveik Oberoi, Zayed Khan
Rating: ***
Hindi cinema has shown considerable technical advancement over the years. Villains who were in look out for a secret red dairy have now graduated to seeking data CD and pen drive!!! And movies are promoted as perpetual pain drives. Vikas Sagar (Zayed Khan) is a prominent television reporter who has interview access to terrorist terrains of Afghanistan. Al Johara, a media entity from Istanbul wants to set base in India and invites Vikas for a 3-month orientation program. Meanwhile the workaholic Vikas has no time for wife (Shriya Sharan) who seeks divorce from her husband. Just when you feel happy for the script for having skipped their unwarranted romance, the director forces in a separation song in flashback. An item number follows soon after, on Vikas' arrival on Turkish land and you can easily figure out that Lakhia is (mis)leading his mission. At Al Johara, Vikas is welcomed by his boss (Niketan Dheer) who's no less hefty than the Hulk and upholds a bullet in his belly as a souvenir from the US army attack. Hulk warns Vikas to stay away from the 13th floor of the TV tower and you wonder if you have entered the Ramsay horror territory where chaukidaar Ramu kaka used to give similar alert notes. Vikas is approached by Rizwan (Viveik Oberoi) who informs him that Al Johara is merely a terrorist mouthpiece and their secret operations are controlled from the restricted floor. Now the mission of this film is to invade floor 13 and hack secret information. Rizwan breaks through the Turkey security as if it were duck soup, while the journo Vikas instantly doubles up as an IIT software engineer who injects virus in workstations as if he were playing at a gaming console. What follows is clichéd hero-villain chases. The heroine serves the basic Bollywood purpose of posing as the scapegoat, held hostage by the Hulk to summon the hero in the villain's den for the climatic combat, as they fight amidst formulaic filmi lines. The girl says, "Usey yeh information kabhi mat dena". The guy says, "Mujhe maaf kar do". And the goon says, "Aaj tujhe tere bhagwan ke paas pahucha dunga". Soon they renounce revolvers to indulge in fistfight machismo. And the viewer hits the exit door before the end credits roll. Mission Istanbul is written on self-prescription, directed as per the convention and has action to exaggeration. While speaking on the issue of global terrorism, the film doesn't delve into the political conspiracy or motivation of nations like Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan and US that it mentions. Also the choice of Istanbul for the media centre remains unexplained. In fact the Istanbul connection is restricted only till the title and holds no relevance to the script. Rather USA is represented by a George Bush (lookalike, of course) who ends up being a comedian in this film. He recognizes Turkey only as a poultry product and doesn't want to attack India since our call center employees serve their nation. Wow, that could be a new angle to the nuclear deal! None of the performances are worth a mention but for Abhishek Bachchan. Is he committed to Apoorva Lakhia for lifetime for his most horrible cameos? Viveik Oberoi tries hard to be the saving grace with his cool act but his character is too short-lived. What more can you say about a hardcore no-brain actioner that deliberately derives its title from a soft drink slogan. This one is on a Mission Audience Gul!
